The rectangular hinged top with molded edge above a panelled case, the front panel centering a carved compass star flanked by the initials "IA" and "GP," the reverse with a carved pinwheel, the case sides also with carved pinwheels and continuing to plank feet--10in. high, 14½in. long, 7in. deep

The carved wheel decoration on this table-chest relates to carving on spoon racks made im Pennsylvania during the same period. See Nutting, figs. 4990, 4992. The double set of initials may indicate that this table-chest was made for a couple after their marriage
