A PARTHIAN OR SASSANIAN BRONZE AND IRON SCEPTER
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY B.C.-3RD CENTURY A.D.

Composed of a long iron shaft, a cast bronze nine-sided handle with a knob on either end, the terminal knob pierced, and a cast bronze scepter head in the form of janiform heads, each with large almond- shaped eyes, the edges and pupils incised, a long ridged nose joining with the brow, a simple incised mouth, and a somewhat pointed chin, nasolabial lines indicated, the shared hair on either side with horizontal incision, terminating in two individual extensions with incised zigzag, 23 1/2in. (59.7cm.) long
