In 1917, Mrs. Robert Coleman Taylor commissioned Josiah Wedgwood & Sons to design and manufacture a tea-service with proceeds from its sale by subscription to be donated to various Allied war charities. Pieces could be ordered in either porcelain or Queen's ware. In 1924, Mrs. Taylor published a listing of the charities to whom donations were made and of the subscribers, including H.M. Queen Mary, whose generosity helped make this possible. The present lot is sold with a copy of this publication, No. 70 from a limited edition reprinted in 1978 by Elaine and Byron Born.
