Lot Essay
William Hillyer, Jr. exhibited several of his portraits at various venues in New York City during the 1830s through the late 1840s. These included the American Academy, the National Academy of Design and the American Institute of the City of New York Fair. By 1846, he had entered into a studio partnership with William H.
