Bual Madeira 1827
Quinta de Serrado
The following wines are from the private cellars of a noble
family from Cama de Lobos, the most prestigious wine district in
Madeira. The family estate Quinta do Serrado, the local manor house,
was built in the 17th century and still exists. The extensive
vineyards of the estate were planted with Malmsey, Bual, Verdelho and
Sercial vines, the latter, as always, at the highest elevation. From
1812 the grapes were pressed at the Quinta and wines stored in oak
casks in a Lodge on the property.
One of the heirs of the estate, Antonio Eduardo Henriques, also known
as the "Menino de Belem" (young master) founded the Madeira wine firm
of this name. The present stock belongs to heirs of the family.

First lot with excellent neck level, good color and Christie's strip label reading: "From Bual grapes growth at the Quinta de Serrado in the Cama de Lobos district of Madeira, matured in cast at the Quinta until put into demi-johns in 1935 and finally bottled in 1988"
Second and third lots with excellent neck levels; labels painted

"Medium-deep amber with pronounced apple-green rim signifying
both age and quality; fabulous, very forthcoming slightly lemon-tinged bouquet, high toned, ethereal, like a fine old Cognac, rich, intense; medium sweet, full bodied, powerful wine with attack and sustaining
power, great length and tingling acidity. Very fine wine." JMB
