It has not been possible to identify which member of the du Pont family this secretaire once belonged to. Although Henry Francis du Pont, the clebrated founder of Winterthur, assembled a distinguished collection of French furniture to furnish his private residences (much of which was sold in these Rooms, 14 October 1994) it included virtually no Empire examples, nor were any of these pieces identified with this brand.
