Château La Mission-Haut-Brion--Vintage 1949
Talence (Graves), cru classé.
Excellent deep color and top-shoulder levels; only fragments of labels but with corks which are clearly branded
"A great '49 and, in the opinion of the Woltners, the best
ever La Mission. Equalling their '29. Eight notes, first in 1971,
all, I think, from the Woltner's family cellars. All superb. A
magnificent magnum at Desai's tasting in 1985: sweet, full,
fleshy. An almost exaggerated fine red Graves flavour reminiscent
of toasted bracken, dried leaves, tobaccco. Last tasted June
1990. Five stars." JMB
