A GEORGE III SILVER WARWICK CRUET STAND
LONDON, 1764, MAKER'S MARK OF JOHN DELMESTER

Of cinquefoil form raised on four openwork rocaille and scroll feet, with central baluster and foliate scroll ring handle, enclosed by gadrooned bottle holders, the front applied with an asymmetrical openwork foliate scroll cartouche engraved with a coat-of-arms and motto, with three baluster castors raised on spreading openwork shaped circular bases with foliate and scroll decoration, the bodies elaborately repousse and chased with swirling bands of laurel and ovals amid scrolls, the baluster high domed covers pierced with foliate scrolls amid similar swirling decoration (one smaller example blind), surmounted by an acanthus bud finial, the stand marked under base and on handle, the castors marked under bases and on covers--height of stand 11 1/4in. (28.6cm.); height of larger castor 9 1/8in. (23.2cm.)
