DUBLIN, 1819, MAKER'S MARK OF EDWARD CROFTON
Of waisted circular form, the incurved base chased with a band of foliage and raised on four ball feet, rising to a reeded pedestal above rocaille supporting a removable circular burner with similar decoration, the body above four claw-and-ball scroll supports with reeded scalework and headed by bearded masks and rocaille, elaborately chased with similar foliage on a matted ground above scalework enclosing, on the back, a vacant asymmetrical scroll and rocaille cartouche, and on the front, a similar cartouche engraved with a later inscription, with cast caryatid side handles, the foliate spout terminating in a bird's head and with foliate scroll loop handle surmounted by anthemion, the domed cover with a similar foliate band and surmounted by a matted acanthus bud finial, marked on base and lamp--16 1/4in.
