LONDON, 1783, MAKER'S MARK OF JOHN SCOFIELD

Navette-shaped, raised on four acanthus scroll and laurel swag feet, the sides repousse and chased with a band of oval panels enclosing, on each side, a vacant circular cartouche, with sweeping acanthus scroll side handles, the two bottle holders on three fluted acanthus scroll supports joined by a laurel rim, the baluster faceted cut-glass bottles with silver mounts with similar oval and laurel bands and scroll handle, the hinged cover with fluted scroll thumbpiece, the base and bottle covers engraved with the Royal badge, Garter motto and crown, marked under base and on bottle holders--length over handles 10 1/4in. (26cm.)
