The arms are those of Fludyer impaling those of Weston, as borne by Sir Samuel Brudenell Fludyer, 2nd. Bt. born in 1759, he succeeded to the baronetcy in 1768. He was M.P. for Aldborough 1781-1784. In 1876 he married Maria, daughter of Robert Weston and died in 1833.

The fortune of the Fludyer family was established by his father, Sir Samuel Fludyer, born about 1705 who "by great industry, a spirit of enterprise acquired predigious wealth". In City Biography, 1800 it is stated that "his origin was so low as to be employed in attending the pack horses, which were formerly used to bring cloth from the West Country to London". He was alderman of Cheap ward from 1751 onwards, M.P. for Chippenham from 1754, Sheriff of London 1754-1755 and Lord Mayor 1761-1762.
