A PAIR OF VICTORIAN SILVER PILGRIM BOTTLES AND COVERS
LONDON, 1892, MAKER'S MARK OF JOHN BODMAN CARRINGTON
In the 17th Century style, each of vase-shaped form, the spreading oval foot repousse and chased with a band of foliate scrolls on a matted ground below a fluted band, the body elaborately chased with entwined foliate scrolls and fruit on a matted ground, enclosing, on each side a scroll cartouche headed by fruit and rocaille and engraved on one side with a coat-of-arms and crest within foliate mantling, and on the other with a crest, the side handles formed as bearded centaurs issuing from acanthus, the fluted neck applied with swags of fruit and foliage below a laurel rim, the domed cover surmounted by a bud finial issuing from an acanthus calyx, marked under rims and on covers--22 1/2in. (57.1cm.) high
