EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800), SIGNED KOENSHI JOEI
The thick shakudo plate is of four-lobed shape (mokko) with a polished and carved surface representing clouds. Carved in high relief is a dragon writhing amongst the clouds. Sheets of gold flame issue from his leg joints. His tongue, feelers and eyes are also in gold. The reverse is decorated with part of the dragon's body and one flaming leg, within clouds--height 8.5cm., width 7.9cm., thickness 4.5mm.
