A MITO-STYLE TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700), SIGNED EIHAN YOSHIMITSU

The four-lobed rounded iron plate is hammered and formed with some cloud areas. It is overlaid with a brass dragon in high relief with fine, detailed carving. The lower left area of the face is decorated with brass clouds in high relief. The hitsu-ana are brass lined and the kogai hitsu is plugged with shakudo--height 7.2cm., width 6.7cm., thickness at the center 4.75mm, at the edge with inlay 9.0mm.
