Goto Senjo (1623-1692) was the fourth son of Goto Kenjo (1586-1663), the seventh main line Shirobei master. This fine example of Senjo's work is in a style that was very popular in Kyoto at the time.

EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1675), SIGNED GOTO SENJO WITH KAO
The round-cornered, four-lobed mokko shakudo plate has a nanako ground. The rim and edge are carved in high relief with crashing waves and two dragons positioned head to tail. The waves are decorated profusely with gold dots of spray and the design is similar on the reverse--height 7.3cm., width 6.6cm., thickness 4.0mm.
