AN EDO HIGO TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1850)

The round-cornered, trapezoidal-shaped iron plate is carved in the web and on the rim with a ginko leaf, cherry blooms, petals and pine needles. The area above and below the central opening is carved with floral petals and covered with silver damascene (nunome). The reverse has cherry blooms and pine needles in gold nunome--height 8.5cm., width 7.8cm., thickness 5.0mm.
