A GEORGE III SILVER-GILT CUP AND COVER
LONDON, 1790, MAKER'S MARK OF JOHN SCOFIELD

In the Adam style, vase-shaped on spreading circular base chased with a band of stiff foliage, rising to a calyx of chased radiating palmettes and a palmette knop, the lower part of the body chased with batswing fluting below an applied band of Vitruvian scrolls and honeysuckle on a matted ground, applied above with foliate swags and paterae, with two acanthus-clad reeded swept handles, the spool-form cover with similar decoration and fluted ovoid finial, the cover engraved with a inscription, marked on base and cover--20½in. (52cm.) high
