Of oblong form, the base and sides printed and painted with floral sprays on a white ground, the cover painted with a lady within a border of purple scrolls--2½in. (6cm.) long

This box is part of the "Purple Scroll" group of enamel boxes and plaques which includes a number of finely painted portraits of King George III and Queen Charlotte. Ladies such as the one on the present example, however, are probably imaginary (see Hughes English Painted Enamels, plate III).
