IN THE MANNER OF G. BENEMAN AND J. STOCKEL, TWICE BRANDED HENRY DASSON AND INSCRIBED HENRY DASSON 1879

With a D-shaped breakfront carrera marble top above a conforming applied egg-and-dart moulded edge and a frieze fitted centrally with a drawer, and applied with foliate pendants suspending foliate drapery, above a centrally panelled drawer, with applied leaf-tip moulded and fluted borders, centering a pair of birds, atop a ribbon-tied armorial trophy flanked by pilasters applied with armorial trophies suspended by ribbon-ties, fitted at the ends with similarly panelled doors, applied with paterae flanked by similarly applied pilasters, above a conforming leaf-tip cast moulding and a fluted apron on foliate-moulded hairy paw feet, headed by paterae--36½in. (92.7cm.) high, 84½in. (214.5cm.) wide 28½i. (72.5cm.) deep

The commode after which this lot is designed was supplied in 1786 by Guillaume Beneman and Joseph Stöckel for Louis XVI at Compiègne (Machatle, Les Ebénéstes du XVII Siècle français, 1963, p.309)
