Pallucchini and Rossi, loc. cit., date the above lot to circa 1555. They comment on its spontaneity of handling and suggest that it may have been intended as a cassone decoration. The vividness of color reflects the influence of Veronese and may be compared stylistically to a series of six Biblical subjects by Veronese in the Prado.
