A RARE DATED WHITE JADE MUGHAL STYLE JAR
QIANLONG, QUI MAO YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1783
The slightly compressed globular vessel well hollowed to a delicate thinness to accentuate the translucency and whiteness of the even-coloured stone, incised in caishu on two sides with lengthy poem by the emperor Qianlong and dated to the qui mao year of the reign of Qianlong, corresponding to 1783, the inscription divided into two sections by the pair of leafy stem handles terminating in pendent buds, all between two bands of overlapping leaves above and below, and surmounted by a short cylindrical neck with lipped rim, the whole raised on a flowerhead-form foot with down-turned petal rim (minute chip)--5¾in. (14.6cm.) across handles
