A pair of Nymphenburg oviform two-handled vases
Circa 1822-25
Of Münchner form with gilt angular handles, the bodies richly gilt with a broad band of vine between bands of interlocking key-pattern enclosing quatrefoils and foliage, the lower parts, flared necks, stems and feet all richly gilt, the out-turned upper rims with gilt anthemion (one foot with slight chipping to two corners of footrim and small chip to top)

Vases of Münchner form were developed at Nymphenburg in 1822 by Friedrich von Gärtner, see Friedrich H. Hoffmann, Geschichte der Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg (Leipzig, 1923), Vol. III, p. 561, fig. 424. The form was adopted by the Royal porcelain factory in Berlin and after 1830 it became the standard vehicle for Royal gifts from the House of Prussia for roughly two decades (between 1829 and 1850 a total of 137 vases of this form are recorded in the account books of the King).
