The present work can be compared to the Portrait of a Gentleman in the Galleria dell'Accademia, Venice, Inv. no. 261, dated by Pallucchini and Rossi to 1517-9 (see R. Pallucchini & F. Rossi, Giovanni Cariani, 1983, p. 143, no. 80, pl. 51) and to the Portrait of Francesco Albani in the National Gallery, London, Inv. no. NG2494 (ibid., p. 123, no. 42, pl. 80) dated to circa 1520.
