A Portuguese silver-gilt sideboard dish
unmarked, first half of the 17th century
Circular, with reeded border, chased and embossed with a border of strapwork and baroque cartouches enclosing scenes emblematic of the months of the year, the well with a border of grotesque masks and strapwork alternating with baroque cartouches containing scenes from classical mythology, the centre with a ribbon-tied laurel wreath surrounding a figure of Victory flanked by armour and holding a shield with a coat-of-arms, apparently unmarked

The arms are those of Juzarte, probably for Gaspar Juzarte (1585-1647), son of Pedro Juzarte, and Knight of the Royal House, and Cavalier of the Order of the 10th. He was Commander of the Order of St. Maria de Uzenda. He married Dona Maria Barradas Caldeira.
