拍品专文

Crafted by a previously unknown French-born cabinetmaker, this richly ornamented cabinet is a rare example of Renaissance Revival furniture documented to Boston.
C.J. Soyard is listed alone at the address on the cabinet, 392 Tremont Street in the 1870 Boston directories. From 1867 to 1870, his name is recorded under the cabinetmaking firm of J.B. Rance & Co. at the same address, and indicates his role as an employee or a business partner. By 1875, he is no longer working at 392 Tremont Street and is working at 12 West Street and in 1880 he is listed at 107 Washington Street, thus providing an end-date for the production of this cabinet.
