On one of his many visits to Scotland this group of objects caught the painter's eye - displaying a limited range of tones and a wide variety of textures. Hornware spoons were traditional in Scotland and not just used for corrosive materials such as salt. A piece of crowdie, a fresh curd cheese made in Scotland from sweet milk and butter, lies on a piece of paper. This was a popular breakfast dish when mixed with oatmeal.
