Depicted with corn sheaves in her left arm and a sheaf of wheat beside her on an integrally carved naturalistic base, signed and dated on the reverse "Rennie Sculp Rome. 1826".
On an associated painted square cement pedestal.
Very minor abrasions and restorations.
57½ in. (144.8 cm) figure, 23¾ x 23¾ x 31 3/8 in. (60.3 x 60.3 x 79.7 cm.) the pedestal.

The harvest figure entitled 'The Gleaner' was the first of George Rennie's exhibition pieces at the Royal Academy on his return from training in Rome in 1828. He continued to exhibit at the Academy until 1837; and the Governors of the Bank of England were amongst his major patrons. From 1841 he served as an M.P.
