A REGENCY BRASS-INLAID ROSEWOOD AND EBONY WORK-TABLE
Inlaid overall with foliate roundels, the rectangular top with roundel border, above a mahogany-lined frieze drawer with divisions, on lyre-end supports and scrolled legs joined by a stretcher, on bun feet, previously with work-basket, the drawer arrangement slightly altered, indistinctly inscribed in chalk 'STONE 30'

Thomas Sheraton's The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, 1793, pl. 26, illustrated a pattern for a lyre-trestled Ladies work-table. Related ribbon inlay in brass and ebony, after the French manner, featured on a set of quartetto tables supplied in 1810 by George Oakley for Papworth Hall (M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture, rev. ed., London, 1965, p. 69, fig. 145).
