A pair of Egyptian 'Isis' candlesticks, whose enflamed 'cippi' altars of ormolu are inscribed with memorial hieroglyphics and attended by bronze Naophori priestesses kneeling on black slate plinths. The model evolved from antiquities in the Vatican Museum, which are executed in black basalt and feature kneeling figures with naos shrines. Such figures were sketched in the mid-1790s by Charles Heathcote Tatham (d. 1842) architect and author of Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture, 1799.
