The cartouche in the northern Pacific Ocean reading R.B. BATE 17 POULTRY LONDON 1818, the 3-inch (7.6 cm.) diameter sphere made up of hand-coloured engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in hours in both directions and degrees, the meridian at 135/fw (from London) graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated days of the Zodiac with sigils, the oceans showing the tracks of Captain Cook and Admiral Anson, the antipodes of London and trade winds in the Arabian and Indonesian Seas, the Antarctic with no land shown, the continents outlined in orange, red or green and showing national boundaries, rivers, deserts and the Great Wall of China, South Africa labelled Country of the Hottentots, south of Country of the Caffres, Columbia labelled Terra Firma, Canada with partial northern coastline and a note reading Sea 1772, Australia with projected southern coastline and Tasmania labelled Dimens Land, New Zealand with simply rendered coastline, with two iron axis pins, contained in the original spherical fishskin-covered case, the interior laid with two sets of twelve hand-coloured engraved celestial gores, the skies shown in yellow, the constellations shown in green and depicted by mythical beasts, figures and scientific instruments, the equatorial graduated in degrees and hours, the equatorial graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the case with edges painted red and three hooks and eyes
