Each formed as an open scallop shell, on three whelk feet, with ribbed upper borders, each engraved with a coat-of-arms, the undersides inscribed 'S.C.W & J.W. from E.W. Octr 28, 1844.', each additionally marked '109' or '110' on the underside

Almost certainly given by Lady Elizabeth Whitbread (d. 1846) to Samuel Charles Whitbread, Esq. (d. 1879), Southill Park, Bedfordshire, and his wife, Julia (d. 1858), daughter of the 21st Baron Dacre, in 1844, for their 20th wedding anniversary, and by descent.
