First modelled by Falconet in 1756. The subject is loosely derived from the engraving by Charles-Nicolas Cochin of François Boucher's Foire de Campagne, which includes the group of children playing Le Tourniquet (or Hazard). See Pierrette Jean-Richard, Boucher (1978), fig. 519. Also see the similar example from the Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection (Part I) sold by Christie's New York on 21st March 1991, lot 125 (part), and the example sold in these Rooms on 8th November 1999, lot 140.

See Émile Bourgeois and Geo. Lechevallier-Chevignard, Le Biscuit de Sèvres, p. 6, no. 403 for an illustrated example of this model.
