A LARGE GREEK TERRACOTTA STATUE OF A WOMAN
Canosan, Circa 4th century B.C.
The body hand-modelled, the head mold-made, depicted wearing a high-belted peplos, with a "Herakles" knot below her pointed breasts, standing with her left leg slightly advanced, with thick-soled shoes protruding from beneath the hem, her bare arms bent at the elbows, her left hand resting on her right fore-arm, the knuckles and nails of her long nimble fingers well-delineated, her center-parted hair pulled back from her face and braided into two long plaits which join in the middle of her back, her head angled up and to the left, with lidded eyes, the pupils articulated, a pointed nose and fleshy lips indented at the corners, her neck with "venus" wrinkles, with white slip preserved throughout
