Serjeant Henry Smith served in Captain Ralph Heathcote's No.4 (or 'C') Troop of the 1st Dragoons in the Waterloo Campaign. In the Battle the Regiment formed part of the 2nd (Union) Brigade and with a unit strength of 394 Officers and Other Ranks sustained 197 casualties.
