What is more necessary than ever in these days of wild technological progress is a stabilizing influence, and what is better than a healthy equilibrium between the market, the arts and sciences, the hard facts and the brilliance of human sensitivity - the initiative of the Basel World Watch and Jewellery Show to place ten items of exquisite jewellery, the creation of outstandingly gifted youth, up for auction is a wonderful one. The proceeds from the auction will go to Global Harmony, a foundation of which I have the honour to be president.

This charity is unique by the fact that it is lean and spare, teaching those underprivileged by nature to help themselves, and thereby retain their human dignity. The underprivileged in India, Brazil, Mexico and parts of Central America have already benefitted considerably from the activity and psychology of Global Harmony, and it is wonderful to feel that those with human values for the time being shrouded in poverty and indifference will benefit from the sense of responsiblity of those with no obligation other than fraternity to be generous, and those with a brilliant future in design at their fingertips.
