The popularity of porcelain animals in the decoration of apartments around 1700 is demonstrated by the numerous dogs, cats, tigers, cockerels and hens, among others, imported by the East India Companies. They appeared in inventories such as that of Burghley House compiled by Culpepper Tanner in 1688. However, models of the boar, acknowledged as the bravest of animals, are rare.
