The present Lot was a gift from the writer Gabriele D'Annunzio as a token of appreciation and friendship to the descendant of a Roman family of note. In a letter dated 16 November 1929 the author wrote: 'E prendi questa mia goccia di sangue cristallizzata, che forse è sudore di sangue'.
