A French ormolu-mounted and pietra dura-inlaid secretaire
Second half 19th Century
The rectangular top above a frieze cast with foliate swags, the fall-front with rectangular lapis lazuli panel inlaid to the centre with an oval with four doves perched on a bowl, flanked to each side by a lion and ring mask supporting an acanthus, pine-cone, vine and flower pendant, the mahogany-lined interior with a single shelf above a pair of tulipwood-veneered drawers and with tan-coloured leather writing surface, the panelled sides each centred by an oval panel painted with a Roman view, within ribbon-tied acanthus-cast frame, the lower section centred by a circular portrait medallion of Louis XVI, flanked to each side by a laurel-cast drawer, on square shaped cabriole legs headed by acanthus and on scrolled sabots
