Bank of England, Abraham Newland (1778-1807), £100, London, 12 October 1790, serial number 1985, black and white, vignette of Britannia top left, 17 at left, 90 at right, manuscript Abraham Newland at centre, one hundred in heavy black print at centre, manuscript pounds, value in heavy black tablet low left, two manuscript signatures below, Sambrook and Pretty (B. unlisted), a truly exceptional banknote, some shadowing of detail where note has been folded (and undisturbed for over 200 years), no ink corrosion and the paper still relatively fresh and undamaged, both signatories are in the Bank of England records as working in the issue office between 1787-1791, about very fine with the paper still retaining good body, important
