The yellow marble column almost certainly formed part of the antiquities introduced to Hever Castle following its purchase in 1903 by William Waldorf Astor (d. 1919), created first Baron of Hever (1916) and Viscount Astor (1917). Astor acquired much of his collection for Hever's Italian Garden during the years that he served as American Ambassador Minister to Italy from 1903-1908. (P. Hetherington, 'The Venetian Well-Heads at Hever Castle', Apollo, March 1985, pp. 162-167).
