AN EARLY VICTORIAN OAK HALL BENCH
The rectangular moulded seat with pierced Gothic sides, each with blind arcaded octagonal column supports above a blind Gothic tracery seat-rail, the legs joined by a curved X-shaped stretcher, with sunk brass castors, the underside of the seat re-supported, inscribed in paint to the underside with a stencil '2088/2'

This stool is designed with fretted quatrefoils and cusped arches in the Gothic manner popularised by publications such as Richard Bridgen's Furniture with Candelabra and Interior Decoration of 1825.
