The sitter's husband was ennobled in 1754 and in 1789 was named Président à la Cour des Aides de Paris. In 1754 Jean Valade became an Académicien and in the following year exhibited eleven portrait at the Salon including one of Monsieur Pinson, then Argentier de la petite écurie du Roi. The miniature on the bracelet of the sitter is of Monsieur Pinson, possible a copy of his portrait.
