This book illustrates 457 portrait miniatures on 148 plates and describes them meticulously. The sitters are nearly all members of the European high aristocracy, with an emphasis on German houses, particularly the branches of the Hesse family. The sitter are detailed from the late 16th Century until the beginning of this Century. Indices of sitters and artists (with biographical information) make this book a useful addition to the library of the collector.
