Chinnery moved from Hong Kong to Macau in 1825 in order to escape his debts. In 1820 he rented a house near the Church of São Lourenço toward the point of the peninsula and remained there for the rest of his life. For further information, see P. Conner, George Chinnery, Woodbridge, 1993, p. 193.
