2° (283 x 190mm.) Final blank. Engraved title, double-page engraved map, 1 folding panorama, 47 engraved illustrations (2 full-page). (Map shaved at outer margins and repaired with slight loss at fold, some old dampstaining.) Contemporary London binding of calf over pasteboard, covers elaborately tooled in gilt, the triple fillet border enclosing a large central panel with blocked arabesque cornerpieces, a large centrally-placed lozenge-shaped arabesque block, the rest of the panel with a slightly later uneven semé of rosette tools, the spine gilt in panels, gilt and gauffered edges (ties lacking, joints neatly repaired, neat repairs to corners and head and foot of spine).
FIRST EDITION, a fine copy in a contemporary London binding of tyhe period: reminiscent of the work of Bateman, but not sharing any of the tools listed by Miriam Foot. STC 21726.
