Each depicting a martial trophy with a central recumbent suit of armour against a backdrop of flags, shields, drums, laurel-wreaths, muskets and fasces, one shown leaning against a saddle, the other a drum, on a plinth base

These trophies are almost certainly maquettes for architectural embellishments. They are closely related to those executed circa 1708-12 by Grinling Gibbons, under Sir John Vanbrugh's supervision, for the skyline of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Malborough's Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire (see J. Lees-Milne, English Country Houses, Baroque, 1685-1715, London, 1970, p. 167).
