A RARE SIMULATED-BAMBOO BRUSHPOT
IRON-RED QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The cylindrical brushpot is enamelled on the exterior with a band of confronted archaistic dragons, reserved on a shaded sepia ground finely scored through to simulate bamboo skin, the top of the rim and the underside of the footrim finely spotted in sepia to simulate the characteristic cross-section of bamboo, the interior and base enamelled turquoise (enamel cracks from rim)

The present lot is one of a group of Qianlong porcelain made to imitate other materials such as hardstone, wood, archaic bronze vessels, cloisonne enamel and lacquer.
