The bowl is of compressed ovoid form, finely carved in high relief encirling the rim with a striding dragon in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl' followed by two smaller chilong, the curved sides carved in shallow relief with bats in flight amidst swirling ruyi-clouds, peaches and auspicious emblems, the wide flat foot enclosing a plain recessed base

This jade bowl with dragons is one variation on a classic theme which harks back to the famous large 'black jade' bowl carved with dragons in clouds and waves in the Round Fort in Beijing, traditionally dated to the Yuan dynasty.
