Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon, Comte de Toulouse, a son of King Louis XIV of France and his mistress Madame de Montespan, was legitimised as a Royal Prince in 1681. He became Admiral of France in 1684 and struggled at the Spanish coast against the British and Dutch fleets from 1704 to 1706.
