Major William Green entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in 1801. Advanced to First Lieutenant in 1803 and to Second Captain in 1808, he was present at the Battle of Salamanca on 22.7.1812 and received the Brevet of Major in 1814.
